Power Rankings for LEC: Week 3 of Spring Split 2020

G2 Esports Continues Dominating the LEC Spring Split

After the second week of the 2020 LEC Spring Split, it was clear that G2 Esports was the team to beat. They secured a victory against Origen, solidifying their position as the best team in the league.

In week three, G2 Esports further cemented their dominance by defeating another top team, Fnatic. This match revealed the vast difference between G2 and the rest of the teams in the league.

This consistent success has led to G2 earning top marks from our panel of League of Legends experts for four consecutive weeks. Each expert gave G2 a perfect score of 10.

The Standings: Who’s on Top and Who’s Struggling

Here are the current standings in the LEC Spring Split:

Although G2 Esports has established themselves at the top, there have been shifts in the middle tier of playoff teams vying for a spot in the last weekend.

Struggling Teams: SK, Schalke, Vitality

Schalke’s failures have been the subject of much discussion in the past two weeks. Despite a jungle swap, the team remains winless and is facing a nightmare of a season. Adding to their troubles, their star bot laner is leaving the team.

Vitality started their game against Excel strong, but they were unable to close it out, falling victim to their own typical mistakes. Mid laner Lucas “Saken” Fayard has struggled to prove himself at the LEC level, and while the team should continue playing him, they should also explore different strategies and positions for their players.

SK Gaming managed to secure a win against Schalke by capitalizing on their opponent’s weaknesses. Although their wins have only come against Schalke and Vitality, SK Gaming is finding some consolation in their performance.

The Similarities: Misfits, Rogue, Mad Lions, Excel

There’s a noticeable gap of 22 points between Misfits and Excel in the middle tier of the teams. However, these teams all seem similar in that they aren’t seen as serious contenders for the top three spots.

Misfits continue to win, but there is skepticism surrounding their success. Despite defeating Origen, only two of our experts placed them higher in their rankings. Misfits has a history of doing well initially and then falling apart. However, jungler Iván “Razork” Díaz is showing potential for a different outcome this time.

Rogue should have secured a win against Mad Lions to prove their ranking, but a poor decision to fight after an ocean drake allowed Mad Lions to get a free Baron. While Rogue looked like the better team overall, they need to avoid making foolish mistakes with Baron on the line.

Excel is the most unpredictable team in this group. Sometimes they shine, especially when mid laner Song “Mickey” Young-min carries the team. However, their overall approach to the game is lacking, and they rely too heavily on individual performances.

Struggling: Fnatic, Origen

Origen’s loss to Misfits isn’t a major concern. It was simply a game where Misfits’ jungler had an exceptional performance. Ultimately, the battle for second place behind G2 Esports is what matters most.

Both Origen and Fnatic, despite being close in score against G2, didn’t display the skill necessary to compete with them. Although Fnatic put up a fight, they never had control over the game. Their defeat by G2 was predictable.

Kings: G2 Esports

G2 Esports may have lost in the finals at Worlds last year, but they are quickly erasing any bitterness by proving their dominance in the LEC Spring Split. It’s important to recognize and celebrate their success as they continue to win.
