Possible Revision: Potential Bug Could Have Influenced Outcome of GAM Esports vs. Top Esports Match at Worlds

The Impact of a Bug on the League of Legends Worlds 2022

As the teams from group C progress to the quarterfinals of the League of Legends World Championship, a bug has been discovered that could have altered the outcome of one of yesterday’s games and affected which teams advanced.

Popular content creator Vandiril highlighted via Twitter that a bug influenced the end of the game between GAM Esports and Top Esports. This bug resulted in a victory for GAM, bringing them closer to the quarterfinals and placing the fate of TES in the hands of other teams. The game between GAM and TES is being hailed as one of the most exciting matches in Worlds so far, with GAM successfully preventing TES from destroying their nexus and securing a win for themselves.

Vandiril’s tweet emphasized that, during the final moments of the GAM vs TES game, Karthus ulted the TES team. However, Lucian’s Maw of Malmortius, an item that should have provided a shield to negate magic damage, failed to block any damage. If the shield had activated, Lucian would have survived with over 600 HP and potentially secured the win for TES.

Upon reviving, GAM’s jungler Levi used Karthus’ ultimate, dealing massive damage to Lucian and Nami, preventing TES from winning the game. The bug in Lucian’s Maw of Malmortius prevented the shield from functioning as intended. This allowed the rest of GAM’s team to eliminate the low-health TES players and secure a victory for themselves.

This bug has not been addressed by Riot Games, the developer of League of Legends. However, professional players, casters, and analysts have voiced their concerns about its impact on the outcome of group C.
