Possible Changes: LCS Matches May Shift to Weekdays by 2023

The LCS could potentially shift match days to Wednesday and Thursday evenings in 2023

The upcoming season of the LCS may see a change in its match days, as reported by Alejandro Gomis of Blix.gg. Instead of the traditional weekend schedule, the LCS is considering moving its games to Wednesday and Thursday evenings.

The LCS has primarily played its matches on weekends since its establishment in 2013, with occasional games on Monday and Friday nights. While regular Thursday night games would be new for the league, playoff games have been held on Thursdays in the past.

According to the report, LCS teams have been informed about the potential shift to weekdays, although no internal decision has been made yet.

Next year, the VALORANT franchised leagues will also begin, with the Americas region likely scheduling its games on weekends. By having VALORANT matches on weekends and League of Legends matches on weekdays, conflicts and overlap between Riot’s two main games can be avoided.

It is currently unclear if this change in match days will be accompanied by a format change for the LCS. The report does not mention any schedule or format alterations for international leagues such as the LEC, LPL, or LCK.

If past trends are any indicator, the 2023 LCS season is expected to commence in January.
