Counter Logic Gaming Falls to Cloud9 in Week Five of the 2020 League of Legends Spring Split
Counter Logic Gaming made a roster change by swapping out former world champion Lee “Crown” Min-ho for NA veteran Eugene “Pobelter” Park in the mid lane. Despite the change, CLG was unable to overcome the dominant force of Cloud9 in week five of the Spring Split.
Pobelter’s Return to the LCS Stage
Eugene “Pobelter” Park, who previously won Worlds with Samsung Galaxy in 2017, made his return to the LCS stage for CLG against Cloud9. Crown had struggled in his first eight games, ranking poorly in K/DA, gold per game, and kill participation. The decision to replace him with Pobelter was a significant off-season move for the region.
Visa Issues and CLG’s Roster Swap
CLG’s roster swap for Pobelter was the first of the split by any LCS team, aside from the visa issues that delayed Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pedersen’s arrival to Team Liquid.
Pobelter’s Performance and Unfortunate Setback
Pobelter held his own in lane against Yasin “Nisqy” Dinçer’s Rumble, even making a game-saving ultimate in their own base. However, he was caught out by a Cloud9 control ward, preventing a potential comeback for CLG.
Strong Performance by Cloud9’s Jungler
Cloud9’s jungler, Robert “Blaber” Huang, had another impressive game, denying Raymond “Wiggily” Griffin farm early and applying pressure across the map. His contributions helped his team secure a four-dragon lead and eventually secure a win.
Cloud9’s Dominance Continues
Cloud9 remains undefeated and will be aiming for a 10-0 record on Sunday. CLG, on the other hand, is still searching for only their second win of the split. Both Cloud9 and CLG will face off against second-place squads Immortals and FlyQuest, respectively, in their next matches.
