Players suggest that older League of Legends champions remain too expensive.

League of Legends Champions’ Cost Concerns Fans

Some players feel that the Blue Essence cost of League of Legends champions is too high, as discussed in a recent post on the game’s official subreddit.

A post on the League subreddit brings attention to Riot’s failure to update its official “Permanent Champion Price Reduction” schedule page on its website. However, it’s important to note that Riot is still reducing champion prices in the actual League client store. Nevertheless, fans are expressing their discontent.

Champions’ Prices Are Still Being Reduced

The official webpage for champion price reduction has not been updated since July 2021. However, champions’ Blue Essence (BE) and Riot Points (RP) costs are still being reduced at the usual rate.

Traditionally, Riot lowers the Blue Essence cost of a League champion whenever a new champion is introduced. The schedule for reducing champion prices is currently 32 champions behind. This means that 32 new champions must be added to the League roster for a champion worth 6300 BE to be reduced to the 4800 BE threshold.

Aurelion Sol, the 130th champion, had his price lowered to 4800 BE when K’Sante, the 162nd champion, was added. The list of champions having their costs reduced will continue to expand with the release of the upcoming champion, Milio, and the reduction of Taliyah’s price from 6300 BE to 4800.

Champion Releases Are Slower Than Ever

The main issue lies in the slower pace of champion releases compared to previous years. Since 2019, Riot has been releasing an average of only five champions per year. This means that champions from nearly six years ago still have the highest price in the League store. For example, Kled, released in August 2016, costs the same as K’Sante, the newest champion in the game.

As for Milio, the upcoming enchanter support, no release date has been announced yet. Riot has plans for at least four champions in 2023, but more announcements may follow. If only four champions are released this year, Camille will have her cost reduced, followed by Xayah and Rakan.
