Patch 11.14 Brings Nerfs to Akali, Karma, Nocturne, Xin Zhao, with Buffs for Darius, Graves, Illaoi, and Seraphine

Riot Games to Make Champion Adjustments in League of Legends Patch 11.14

Riot Games has announced upcoming changes to several champions in the current competitive meta of League of Legends. Lead game designer Jeevun Sidhu revealed that champions like Akali, Karma, Nocturne, and Xin Zhao will receive nerfs in the next patch. Additionally, champions such as Malzahar, Shaco, and Ziggs will also be nerfed. On the other hand, bruiser top laners Darius, Garen, and Illaoi can expect buffs. Taric, Seraphine, Graves, Rek’Sai, and Ivern will all receive some adjustments as well. These changes aim to balance the game and address the champions’ impact on the meta.

Champion Adjustments for Flexibility and Pro Play

Two champions, Dr. Mundo and Tahm Kench, will receive adjustments to their flexibility across different roles. Dr. Mundo’s flexibility in the top lane and jungle will be fine-tuned, while Tahm Kench’s flexibility as a support and top laner will be calibrated. These champions have undergone kit reworks and require further adjustments to ensure their balance in each role. Irelia and Lillia will also undergo adjustments to improve their fit in pro play compositions.

Impact of Champion Changes on the Meta

The champions Akali, Karma, Xin Zhao, and Nocturne have had a significant impact on the professional meta, especially in Europe and North America. Akali, for example, has seen a rise in pick and ban frequency globally, with 153 bans across major regions. She currently maintains a 69% win rate in 71 played games, according to Games of Legends. The upcoming nerfs aim to address these champions’ dominance in the mid lane and restore balance to the game.

Looking Ahead to Patch 11.14

While buffs are anticipated for certain bruiser champions following changes to Stridebreaker, players must wait for specific numbers to gauge the impact. Riot Games must carefully balance these champions to avoid overpowered gameplay. The adjustments may require players to rethink their item builds and playstyles. Aside from these adjustments, Riot also reviewed the performance of the newest champion, Gwen, and determined that she is performing reasonably well in solo queue, with no need for immediate nerfs. Patch 11.14 is scheduled to go live on Thursday, July 8th.
