OpTic General Manager Romain Bigeard on players departing from EU for NA: “Why sacrifice a significant opportunity to appease a few Redditors?”

Romain Bigeard: From Unicorns of Love to OpTic Gaming

In August, Romain Bigeard was the general manager of Unicorns of Love. He was known for his enthusiastic support of the team, wearing a unicorn hat and cheering loudly. But then, he shocked his fans by leaving UOL to join OpTic Gaming. Now, he is the general manager of OpTic and is excited about the new opportunities.

“People thought UOL was a bad team, but we made it to the playoffs every split. We went to the finals twice and won IEM. I had a lot of fun there, but when OpTic offered me the same job with more resources and a bigger market, I couldn’t say no,” Bigeard said.

Starting Over with OpTic Gaming

OpTic Gaming was recently acquired by Neil Leibman, and they have spots in both the NA LCS and Overwatch League. They wanted to hire a League of Legends GM before applying to the NA LCS, and Bigeard was the perfect fit.

After agreeing to work for OpTic, Bigeard took his first-ever ride on a private jet to meet with Riot HQ and make their case to join the new league.

Betrayal and Criticism

Both Bigeard and PowerOfEvil faced criticism when they joined OpTic Gaming. European fans felt betrayed that they left the EU LCS. But Bigeard believes that players should focus on their own success and happiness, rather than worrying about what fans on Reddit think.

A Happy Environment

OpTic Gaming may not have the best record so far, but Bigeard believes that the team’s positive attitude and happy environment will lead to success in the long run. He focuses on recruiting players with the right mindset and believes that having fun and enjoying the game is crucial.

“To me, what makes a team successful is people having fun, being happy, and smiling. It’s a game at the end of the day, and we should never forget that,” Bigeard said.

OpTic Gaming aims to stand out by not seeking revenge on former players, but instead approaching the game as a fun and enjoyable experience.
