One Western League of Legends team finishes 2023 with just one international victory following a disappointing departure from Worlds.

The Mad Lions’ Disappointing Streak at Worlds 2023

The Mad Lions, a team from the West, had a rough time at the 2023 League of Legends World Championship. They finished their run at Worlds with one of the worst international records compared to other participating organizations.

With a 1-10 record at international tournaments throughout the season, the Mad Lions managed to secure only one win against Team BDS, which was another European representative at Worlds. Their victory against BDS was their only glimmer of hope this year, as they faced multiple setbacks at the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational and were unable to find success against top teams like Weibo Gaming.

At the Mid-Season Invitational, they were defeated by T1 and G2 Esports, proving their struggle to compete with strong Korean and European teams. Their disappointing performance extends back to the 2022 World Championship, where they were swept by Evil Geniuses during the play-in stage.

A History of Unfortunate Records

The Mad Lions have been plagued by poor records over the past couple of years. Their mid laner, Yasin “Nisqy” Dinçer, has struggled to secure wins against major region teams in global events, with only two victories to his name. This lack of success against the best in the world may prompt the team to consider making changes during the offseason to improve their performance.

Decisions to Consider for the Future

After such a disappointing end to the year, one player who has important decisions to make is star jungler Javier “Elyoya” Prades Batalla. His contract expires in November, and there have been rumors about his potential transfer since last year’s offseason. Elyoya has been a key player for the team’s success in recent years, but he may explore other opportunities.

Elyoya is the only Mad Lions player with an expiring deal this offseason, according to the League global contract database. The organization’s staff will need to make significant decisions to improve the future of the club and aim for better results in their upcoming international events.
