One side dominates with an astonishingly high win rate at LoL Worlds 2023

The Impact of Team Sides at the 2023 League of Legends World Championship

The ongoing 2023 League of Legends World Championship is witnessing an interesting trend, where the side a team chooses has a significant impact on their likelihood of winning the match.

According to Gol.gg, a popular League of Legends pro play stats site, teams on the blue side have a staggering 76.7 percent win rate at the Worlds 2023 main event, while teams on the red side lag behind at only 23.3 percent.

It’s important to note that teams are actively choosing the blue side whenever possible. This preference for the blue side is not merely a coincidence, but primarily driven by the advantages it offers, such as pick and ban order and access to crucial neutral objectives like the Rift Herald and Baron Nashor.

For instance, while the red team has to take a longer route around the Baron Pit, the blue team can easily traverse through their jungle. Consequently, the red team finds themselves in a disadvantageous position, having to confront the blue team head-on, especially if they lack proper vision.

While the draft phase may not necessarily dictate the outcome of your own ranked games, it holds utmost significance in professional play. The blue side gets the first pick, enabling them to secure a priority champion. This strategic advantage allows the blue side team to leave certain overpowered picks available, forcing the red side team to waste their bans on champions they did not intend to.

The Worlds 2023 tournament will continue until November 19, with Riot Games ultimately crowning the World Champion. Currently, the first stage of the Swiss format has concluded, and on October 26, the top teams will battle it out in the knockout stage.
