North American struggles overshadow thrilling day 4 of Worlds 2022 groups

League of Legends Worlds 2022: Records Broken and Team Performances

Today at Worlds, numerous records were shattered. Whether it was exciting or disheartening depended on your perspective. Despite a challenging day for the host region, there are many intriguing storylines and talent showcases to explore in the upcoming days of the group stage.

Quick Highlights from the Last Day of the Group Stage’s First Round Robin

The LPL (League of Legends Pro League) achieved a 2-1 record against the LEC (League of Legends European Championship). However, Rogue, the European champions, showed their potential with a victory. Rogue’s early game-focused bottom lane, Odoamne’s impact as a ganking jungler, and Larssen’s control mage skills contributed to their success.

G2 Esports put up a formidable fight against LPL champions JD Gaming. Although JDG may be a strong contender, they are not invincible, as even the winless Evil Geniuses proved.

NA (North America) teams are off to their worst start ever at Worlds, with the LCS (League Championship Series) losing all nine opening games at the 2022 World Championship. NA’s previous worst start was in 2020, where teams lost their first five games before a victory by FlyQuest broke the streak.

Royal Never Give Up, Rogue, and JDG have secured at least a tiebreaker for a quarterfinals spot. All three Korean teams continue to dominate, with a six-win streak for the region. Rogue’s success in Group C means that either DRX or Top Esports is unlikely to advance to the next stage. Fnatic and G2 are set on causing upsets in their matches against formidable teams like DWG KIA, EDward Gaming, and T1.

Looking Ahead

The second round robin of the group stage, which will determine the quarterfinalists, resumes after a two-day break. The action begins on Thursday, Oct. 13, with Fnatic facing off against Cloud9.
