North American League of Legends Players Experiencing Game Disruptions due to Widespread Server Issues

North American League of Legends Servers Experience Connection Issues

On May 12, players on the North American servers of League of Legends faced connection problems. Many players noticed sudden spikes in their in-game ping. This affected players on both the east and west coasts of the continent. As a result, ranked queues were disabled. However, players in Europe and other parts of the world were not affected.

Reports of Server Instability

Players initially reported the disconnections and ping spikes on the League subreddit and Downdetector, a crowdsourced server status site.

The instability had various in-game effects, including constant disconnecting and reconnecting, champions being unable to move, the inability to buy items in the shop, and structures appearing intact when they were actually destroyed.

Riot’s Response

Riot has recognized the severity of the situation and marked it as “critical” on their server status webpage. They have disabled ranked queues while they investigate the problem causing player disconnections.

Update May 12 3:01am CT: Riot has resolved the server instability issues for the North American region, according to the service status page of League of Legends.
