North America triumphs over Europe as Cloud9 secures an impressive victory at Worlds 2023

Cloud9 Defeats MAD Lions and Secures North America’s First Win at Worlds 2023

Cloud9 once again lived up to expectations as they defeated MAD Lions in their opening game of the Worlds 2023 Swiss stage, claiming North America’s first win at the tournament.

The NA squad did so in stunning fashion, with the European representatives looking lost on Summoner’s Rift throughout the game.

Impressive Performance from Cloud9

MAD Lions tried to make proactive plays, but Cloud9 countered them swiftly. The European squad made mistake after mistake, and Cloud9 took advantage of it, quickly taking control of the game.

C9’s Dominating Performances

With dominating performances from Fudge and Berserker, MAD Lions could hardly keep up in mid-game teamfights. After taking Baron Nashor, Cloud9 was fully in charge and closed the game in just 30 minutes, securing LCS’s first triumph at Worlds 2023.

Exciting Time for North American Fans

North American fans have even more reasons to be excited. Team Liquid also had a strong showing in the opening game of the Swiss stage, despite being eventually defeated by T1. They managed to secure two Baron Nashors and showed they were more than capable of upsetting Korea’s second seed.

This victory for Cloud9 is a sweet payback for the European teams’ dominant win in the Worlds Qualifying Series. The Swiss stage is just beginning, and there is potential for plenty of EU versus NA series in the near future, settling the never-ending debate.

Worlds 2023 continues with six more matches today. Gen.G is taking on GAM Esports after Cloud9 and MAD Lions left the stage.
