New song to be unveiled alongside RISE at Worlds opening ceremony

The 2018 League of Legends World Championship Finals to Feature Explosive Opening Ceremony

This weekend, the finals of the 2018 League of Legends World Championship will take place, with Fnatic from the EU LCS and Invictus Gaming from the LPL competing for the first non-Korean Worlds throne since season two.

Similar to last year’s tournament, which showcased a giant augmented reality dragon and a massive performance of “Legends Never Die,” Riot has announced that this year’s opening ceremony will be equally explosive. The company plans to include performances from renowned artists, including a big show featuring this year’s tournament anthem, “RISE.”

Additionally, Riot will debut a brand-new song featuring popular American pop artists Madison Beer and Jaira Burns, as well as K-Pop artists Cho “Miyeon” Mi-yeon and Jeon “Soyeon” So-yeon from the group (G)I-DLE. While the name of the new song has not been revealed, it is expected to be a fusion between American pop and K-Pop.

The ceremony will also feature performances by The Glitch Mob, Mako, and The Word Alive, all of whom were part of the original version of RISE. K-Pop artist Kim “Bobby” Ji Won from the group iKON, who recently starred in a remix of the song, will also join them on stage.

Riot has promised multiple performances and surprises during the opening ceremony, leaving fans curious about what else to expect. The announcement emphasized that this year’s ceremony will be “unlike anything you’ve seen before,” although no further details were provided. The production team at Riot certainly has a tough challenge ahead as they try to surpass a giant CGI dragon in the center of the stage.

The opening ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2:30am CT this Saturday.
