New Precision Keystone Rune in LoL Deals True Damage, Melting Tanks

New Keystone Rune Coming in Patch 8.6 for ADCs

The preseason may be over, but there’s more to come in terms of new runes in League of Legends. Riot Games recently announced that a new Keystone rune will be added to the Precision rune family in Patch 8.6. This rune is specifically designed for ADCs who want to take down tanks more efficiently, but Riot is currently facing some challenges in balancing its power.

The new rune works similarly to the Grasp of the Undying rune in the Resolve tree, but it specifically caters to ADCs. After four seconds of combat, the rune will trigger and convert a portion of the ADC’s attack damage into true damage, which is highly effective against tanks. This is great news for the ADC enthusiasts out there, as tanks are currently dominating the meta.

However, creating a rune with true damage can be difficult to balance. Riot Games is currently struggling to ensure that the rune remains balanced while also limiting its effectiveness to ranged champions only. To prevent the rune from becoming overpowered, the design team is considering implementing certain requirements, such as a certain amount of attack damage and health, to activate its effects. Alternatively, they may remove the true damage aspect entirely and replace it with a dual penetration boost, combining lethality and magic penetration.

There is concern that if the rune provides a dual penetration boost, champions like Kog’Maw who benefit from both armor and magic penetration may become too powerful with this rune.

Players can expect to test out this new Keystone rune on the PBE soon before its official release in Patch 8.6, which is two patches away.
