New LoL skinline celebrates the departed with exciting new looks for Renata Glasc, Qiyana, and others

League of Legends Introduces “La Ilusion” Skinline Inspired by Day of the Dead

Riot Games is breaking away from the traditional batch of Halloween skins in League of Legends with the introduction of the new “La Ilusion” skinline. The skinline features Renata Glasc, Ziggs, Draven, Qiyana, Gnar, and Nidalee indulging in post-death antics. These skins are set to be released alongside Patch 13.19 on September 27. It is unclear at this time if additional Halloween-themed skins will be released later on.

La Ilusion Skins Inspired by Day of the Dead

The “La Ilusion” skinline draws clear inspiration from the Mexican tradition of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), as well as other celebrations of the departed in Hispanic cultures. The skins feature colorful skulls (calaveras) and marigolds, symbolizing the celebration of life and the continuation of life even after death.

Renata Glasc, Qiyana, Ziggs, and Nidalee in the skinline incorporate candles and altars (ofrendas), which are physical elements used in these celebrations to honor the deceased. Families often decorate the altars with items and pictures that were meaningful to the person who passed away. Nidalee, for example, pays tribute to a fallen feline companion on her altar. In contrast, Ilusion Draven’s axes are adorned with guitar symbols, a popular instrument associated with these festivities.

Prestige Version and Upcoming Event

Renata Glasc also receives a Prestige version of her La Ilusion skin, replacing the midnight blues and lavenders with golds and whites. Her abilities feature floral patterns that resemble the deep gold color associated with marigolds. It is anticipated that this skin will be earnable through an upcoming event pass.

Although details about the event featuring the La Ilusion skins have not been revealed yet, it is likely that they will be part of the first phase of a Worlds event since they will be released alongside Patch 13.19, the patch used for the upcoming World Championship. More information about the event is expected in the coming weeks.

Availability and Testing

All of the La Ilusion skins are currently available for testing on League’s PBE server and will be released on live servers on September 27. Assets related to a potential event, such as capsules, icons, and emotes, will be patched into the PBE in the next week.
