Mythic items for bruisers fall short of Riot’s intended build diversity with Divine Sunderer and Goredrinker taking the lead

Riot’s Item Rework Fails to Deliver Diverse Builds in League of Legends

Riot Games’ recent item rework aimed to bring more diversity to builds in League of Legends and prevent champions from purchasing the same items. However, the rework has resulted in certain items overshadowing their counterparts.

Among bruisers in the top, middle, and jungle roles, Divine Sunderer and Goredrinker have emerged as the most popular items. Divine Sunderer has a pick rate of 10.4%, while Goredrinker follows closely behind with a pick rate of 8.8%.

Other bruiser items like Stridebreaker and Trinity Force have fallen out of favor. Stridebreaker’s removal of its dash ability led to a significant drop in popularity, with a pick rate of only 2.1%. Similarly, Trinity Force is seen as an underwhelming item with lackluster effects and stats, resulting in a pick rate of just 1.3%.

It’s not just bruisers who are affected by this imbalance. Tanky supports often opt for Locket of the Iron Solari due to the lack of other utility-oriented alternatives. Engage supports and enchanters, on the other hand, prefer Shurelya’s Battlesong for its powerful movement speed buff that cannot be replicated by other items.

Unfortunately, it is unclear when more Mythic items will be introduced to the game. Currently, the item rework has not achieved its goal of fostering greater diversity in builds. Most champions continue to rush the same items as before, albeit now referred to as Mythic items and providing a bonus for completed Legendary items.
