MonteCristo to Seek Creation of Esports Caster’s Union

Christopher “MonteCristo” Mykles Pursues Creation of Esports Caster’s Union

Well-known OGN caster and owner of The Renegades esports organization, Christopher “MonteCristo” Mykles, has expressed his ambition to create an esports caster’s union. He shared this pursuit through a tweet following a series of complaints about how Riot Games handles professional team and player income in their game, League of Legends.

MonteCristo’s Feud with Riot Regarding Caster Treatment

MonteCristo has had an ongoing feud with Riot regarding their treatment of casters. The most notable complaints arose in March of this year when Montecristo and other OGN LoL casters decided not to work with Riot for their broadcast of the Mid-Season Invitational. Upon surveying casters from various esports scenes, the OGN casters found that Riot was offering significantly lower wages compared to industry standards. This issue could be addressed by a union that establishes fair wages universally. Monte has also expressed dissatisfaction with how Riot restricts their contracted casters from pursuing additional revenue sources, essentially making them financially reliant on the company.

Unanswered Questions about the Caster’s Union

As this discussion is based on a casual tweet, there are several unanswered questions. The main one is whether this union would encompass all aspects of esports broadcasting, rather than just casters. There is also no information on how this venture would be funded or how it would operate on an international level.

Creating something as significant as a caster’s union could potentially disrupt the foundations of esports, but it also carries the risk of failure. It will undoubtedly be an intriguing process to follow, and we will keep you updated on all news related to Monte’s struggle here at GAMURS.
