MonteCristo condemns World Championship schedule

Riot Games Announces Regional Championships at PAX Prime and Gamescom

Riot Games has recently revealed that the regional championships for North America and Europe will be held at PAX Prime and Gamescom, respectively. This move aims to showcase League of Legends esports to a wider audience.

Concerns Over Unfair Scheduling

Some have criticized this decision, particularly Counter Logic Gaming coach Christopher “MonteCristo” Mykkles. Mykkles expressed concern about the lack of preparation time for the World Championship, as American teams will have two fewer weeks to practice compared to their European counterparts. European teams will also have the advantage of traveling to Korea two weeks earlier for valuable practice against the world’s top teams.

Is Mykkles Overreacting?

However, some argue that Mykkles is blowing this issue out of proportion. The final event in Korea is scheduled for October 19th, giving teams ample time for travel, recovery, and practice. Additionally, the earlier stages in Singapore and Taiwan have yet to be announced, and teams can plan accordingly once those dates are confirmed.

Arguments for the Schedule

Despite the concerns raised, there are valid reasons for the schedule. It benefits fans and spectators, as they won’t have to choose between watching different regional championships over a single weekend. Ultimately, the purpose of a competitive team is to be watched and supported by viewers.

Counter Logic Gaming has previously clashed with Riot Games over scheduling issues. However, it’s important to note that CLG is currently leading the LCS standings but still has a long way to go in order to qualify for the World Championships.
