Mithy Rumored to Make a Comeback to Former League Team as Head Coach

Mithy Returns to Cloud9 as Head Coach for 2023 Season

The official free agency window opened on Nov. 21. But rumors about roster changes in the League of Legends community have been swirling since Worlds 2022 concluded. According to a report from Blix.gg’s Alejandro Gomis, Alfonso “Mithy” Aguirre Rodríguez has reached a verbal agreement to return to Cloud9 as their head coach for the upcoming season.

Mithy first joined Cloud9 in 2020 as a strategic coach and later became their head coach, replacing Kim “Reignover” Yeu-jin. Under Mithy’s leadership, the team achieved some success, making it out of the groups at Worlds 2021. However, their consistent top-three finishes were not enough.

Mithy began his professional career as a support player for Giants Gaming in 2012. He later found his home with Origen, now known as Astralis, after stints with other teams like G2 and TSM.

After a disappointing run with Origen in 2018, Mithy transitioned to coaching and joined Fnatic. However, internal issues caused difficulties for the team, leading Mithy to leave for North America as a coach. He coached both Cloud9 and 100 Thieves during his time in NA. Now, he is returning to Cloud9, aiming to help the team reach new heights once again.
