Missed chances? Rekkles allegedly opts for brief respite instead of joining previous LEC victors

League of Legends Pro Rekkles Turns Down KOI to Take Break

A month ago, the renowned League of Legends player, Martin “Rekkles” Larsson surprised everyone by transitioning to the support position. Despite his iconic status as an AD carry player, many teams approached him in the offseason to join their ranks.

Following his removal from the starting lineup of Fnatic, the 26-year-old had the opportunity to join KOI for the 2023 LEC Summer Split. However, according to esports journalist Brieuc Seeger, Rekkles decided to decline the offer and take a break for the remainder of the year.

Had Rekkles accepted the offer, he would have replaced Adrian “Trymbi” Trybus on the roster. Trymbi, who joined Fnatic in 2020, has been with the organization since his promotion from the ERL. There were reports suggesting Rekkles may have returned to Fnatic as a potential replacement for the team’s current support, but no further details have surfaced.

On the other hand, Rekkles’ role switch has left a void in Fnatic’s roster, pushing the team to search for a new AD carry player. They are not only aiming for an LEC championship but also vying for a spot at the 2023 World Championship in South Korea. With only three slots available, the competition is fierce, and eliminations can happen as early as the first three weeks.

This setback is not unfamiliar for Fnatic, as they experienced disappointment in the 2023 Winter Split. They finished in ninth place with a 2-7 record, failing to qualify for the group stage and leaving them to regroup while their rivals, G2 Esports, went on to win the trophy.

In the meantime, Rekkles plans to use the upcoming season as an opportunity to reinvent himself as a support player. He aims to learn and perfect his skills in this role, positioning himself as a valuable asset in the market for the 2023 offseason.
