Micro, Former DAMWON Gaming coach, becomes head coach of Sandbox

Sandbox Gaming Signs Kim “Micro” Mok-kyoung as Head Coach

Sandbox Gaming has announced the signing of Kim “Micro” Mok-kyoung as the head coach for their League of Legends team in the upcoming year. This comes after the departure of YamatoCannon three weeks ago.

Micro previously served as the coach of Awesome, an LCK Academy team, for the past eight months. Sandbox expressed their enthusiasm about becoming a more confident and aggressive team under Micro’s guidance.

Previous Coaching Experience

Micro had previously coached DAMWON Gaming from May 2017 to February 2020. After some changes to the team’s roster, they emerged as one of the top squads in late 2018. They secured a spot in the qualification match for the 2019 LCK Spring Split, which they won convincingly with a 3-1 score against Team Battlecomics.

Success and World Championship Journey

DAMWON Gaming had an impressive first year in the LCK, finishing fifth in their debut Spring Split and second in the Summer Split. Their consistent performances earned them a place in the regional finals for a World Championship spot. They dominated the competition, securing their spot in the Worlds 2019 tournament.

Although they performed well in the group stage, DAMWON Gaming was eliminated in the first round of the knockout stage by G2 Esports. Following their Worlds run, Micro left the team and was replaced by Lee “Zefa” Jae-min, a former coach of T1.

Recent Achievements

Most notably, DAMWON Gaming emerged as the champions of Worlds 2020 on October 31. It was a momentous achievement for the team.
