Former League of Legends World Champion MaRin leaves Afreeca Freecs

Jang “MaRin” Gyeong-Hwan, a former League of Legends world champion, announced his departure from Afreeca Freecs after a year with the team. This was revealed in a tweet posted earlier today by the team.

MaRin joined Afreeca Freecs at the end of 2016 after leaving LPL team LGD Gaming. His addition to Afreeca Freecs was a part of the team’s major roster rebuild, which also included the likes of Lee “Kuro” Seo-haeng, former ROX Tigers mid laner, and Lee “Spirit” Da-yun, former Fnatic jungler.

Despite a rough performance in 2016 with LGD Gaming, MaRin impressed fans with his plays on Afreeca Freecs, especially with his mastery of champions like AD Kennen.

Speculations on MaRin’s Future Team

Following MaRin’s departure from Afreeca, speculations have risen regarding which team he will join next. The prevailing theory among the community is that he might return to SK Telecom T1. MaRin was a member of SKT until the end of 2015, and his return to the team’s roster is highly anticipated. Inven Global has reported that SKT has been in search for a new top laner, making MaRin’s addition to the team a possibility.

Afreeca Freecs Announces Contract Resignings

While MaRin has become a free agent, the remaining five members of Afreeca Freecs have all renewed their contracts for the 2018 season. This was also announced on Twitter by the organization.

However, fans should not expect any official announcement from MaRin until after the conclusion of this year’s Kespa Cup, which is set to end on December 2.
