MAD Lions’ Shad0w Reflects on Qualifying for Worlds: “Achieving it brought me happiness and relief after missed opportunities”

MAD Lions Secure Spot at 2020 World Championship, Defeating Schalke 04

MAD Lions, the up-and-coming esports team, has successfully secured a spot at the 2020 World Championship after defeating Schalke 04 in a 3-1 series. Despite some struggles towards the end of the season, MAD Lions’ young roster showcased their talent and determination.

Pressure and Gameplan: Shadow’s Insights

Following their series victory, MAD Lions’ star jungler, Shadow, spoke to about the pressure he felt during the matches, their strategy to neutralize Schalke, and his expectations for future matchups, including the game against Rogue.

Adjustments and Pinching Gilius’ Champion Pool

Although the series didn’t start off well for MAD Lions, they made important adjustments after the initial game. Shadow explained that Schalke’s strength relied heavily on Gilius, their aggressive jungler. To counter this, MAD Lions aimed to limit Gilius’ options and force him onto uncomfortable picks. Shadow also noted that they were surprised by Schalke leaving Lillia open for him, considering her power in the current meta.

Overcoming Nerves and Relief

Shadow admitted that he was nervous in the first game, as it was their last chance to qualify for Worlds. However, the team quickly regrouped and executed their plan flawlessly. After securing their spot, Shadow expressed feelings of happiness and relief, considering the missed opportunities earlier in the season. He acknowledged the Schalke miracle run but emphasized that competition demands such outcomes.

Confidence in the Meta and Facing International Competition

Looking ahead, Shadow expressed confidence in their series against Rogue, thanks to the shift in mid-lane meta. With an emphasis on assassins and carry junglers, MAD Lions believe the current meta favors their playstyle. Shadow also expressed excitement about facing top junglers from other regions, such as JD Gaming’s Kanavi, TOP Esports’ Karsa, and Gen.G’s Clid. It will be a chance for him to prove himself on the international stage.

Room for Improvement and Expectations for Worlds

Shadow acknowledged that there is still room for improvement for MAD Lions and Rogue, as they face international teams at the 2020 World Championship in Shanghai. He predicted that G2 Esports would reach the quarterfinals, and both MAD Lions and Fnatic have a good chance of progressing from the group stage. The competition will provide valuable lessons for the teams.
