MAD Lions punch ticket to Worlds 2020, eliminate Schalke from LEC playoffs

MAD Lions Secures Spot as LEC’s Fourth Representative in 2020 World Championship

MAD Lions has ended Schalke 04’s miraculous 11-game winning streak and secured their spot as the LEC’s fourth and final representative in the upcoming 2020 World Championship. MAD Lions defeated Schalke 04 with a 3-1 victory in the 2020 LEC Summer Split playoffs.

MAD entered the best-of-five series after a decline in performance, particularly evident in their crushing loss to G2 at the start of the playoffs. Despite Schalke’s initial game win, League fans were quick to support them in hopes of another miracle run.

Schalke’s success in the first game was largely attributed to Gilius, their jungler, who played exceptionally on his preferred tank champion, Sejuani. However, in the following three games, Gilius’s performance declined, and Schalke struggled as a team, unable to execute their gameplan effectively. MAD’s bot lane duo, Carzzy and Kaiser, played exceptionally well, dominating the early game and securing advantages for their team. Additionally, MAD’s jungler, Shad0w, delivered a dominant performance on Lillia in the final game of the series.

The End of Schalke’s Miracle Run

The end of this series marked the conclusion of Schalke’s incredible journey from an 0-10 start to earning a spot in the World Championship. While they fell short of completing the seemingly impossible task, their performance after a catastrophic beginning was commendable.

MAD Lions’ Debut on the International Stage

MAD’s victory also signifies their first appearance on the international stage. The organization made its LEC debut earlier this year after a merger between MAD Lions Esports Club and OverActive Media. With the exception of mid laner Humanoid, who has previous Worlds experience, the rest of the team is attending Worlds in their rookie season of major region competition.

Seeding and Pride on the Line

With the LEC’s Worlds representatives now locked in, teams G2, Fnatic, Rogue, and MAD Lions have the opportunity to secure favorable seeding in Worlds by avoiding the play-in stage. G2 and Fnatic will compete for a spot in the LEC finals, where the winner will have a chance to secure Europe’s first seed at Worlds 2020.
