MAD Lions make a strong start to their LEC title defense by defeating Vitality in 2022 Spring Split opener

Team Vitality Falls Short Against MAD Lions in 2022 LEC Season Opener

Team Vitality, who were considered a dominant force on paper, faced off against back-to-back champions MAD Lions in the opening game of the 2022 LEC season.

Despite their star-studded roster, Vitality was unable to secure a victory. MAD Lions began their title defense with a 32-minute win over the highly anticipated team of the offseason.

Right from the start, MAD Lions made a statement by taking a significant gold lead of almost 10,000 before the mid game even began. They closed the game and secured their first win of 2022 in just over 10 minutes.

MAD Lions’ victory was largely attributed to their effective draft, with jungler Elyoya and rookie mid laner Reeker showcasing their skills on Diana and Yasuo. The duo posted an impressive combined score of 12/2/18 in their opening game.

Vitality’s lineup of stars, including top laner Alphari and mid laner Perkz, struggled against the strong topside lineup of MAD Lions throughout the game. Perkz, in particular, finished with a scoreline of 0/6/4, marking the first time in his career that he lost the opening game of a regular season.

In addition, Vitality’s AD carry Carzzy, who previously played for MAD Lions and brought them to back-to-back World Championships, couldn’t match their tempo in the later stages of the game.

MAD Lions will continue their winning streak in their next game against SK Gaming, while Vitality will face another title contender, Fnatic.
