MAD Lions Grants Freedom to LoL Staff and Players for 2024 LEC Season Exploration

MAD Lions Facing Massive Overhaul After Disappointing Season

The LEC has been full of ups and downs for MAD Lions, but now it seems that one of the most beloved teams in the European League of Legends scene is preparing for a major rebuild during the offseason.

Till Werdermann, MAD Lions’ senior director of team operations, announced today that the entire division has been given permission to explore their options for next year following their recent exit from the 2023 World Championship. While they are open to new opportunities, Werdermann emphasized that they may still find their best options within the team.

Contract Situations and Roster

Most of the players on the roster are still under contract until the end of this year, with the exception of star jungler Elyoya whose contract expires in November. Nisqy and Hylissang’s contracts expire next year, while Chasy and Carzzy are signed until 2025, according to the League global contract database.

Frustrations and Disappointments

Many fans believe that this iteration of the team has reached its peak, especially after disappointing performances in the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational and Worlds 2023. Despite a remarkable underdog run in the spring that led them to win the LEC championship, MAD Lions struggled to find success in international events this year, winning only one game between both tournaments.

Looking Ahead

With a roster full of veteran players, MAD Lions had high expectations for the past season, but they fell short of their potential. After finishing in seventh place during the regular season and playoffs, the team was eliminated by Fnatic in the Season Finals. Their performance at Worlds was also lackluster, with only one win in the Swiss stage against Team BDS. MAD Lions faced difficulties against other major region teams such as Cloud9, NRG Esports, and Weibo Gaming.

Moving forward, the future of MAD Lions looks uncertain. The organization is considering a complete rebuild of the team, including players and staff. Stay tuned for further updates as the year progresses.
