MAD Lions deliver a decisive blow to Vitality, staying strong in LEC playoff chase with crucial win.

MAD Lions Bounces Back with Impressive Performance

After enduring a challenging few weeks in the 2022 Spring Split, League of Legends fans witnessed a nostalgic display of skill from the reigning European champions, MAD Lions.

The back-to-back LEC trophy winners, who have been on the cusp of the playoffs throughout the season, showcased their greatness against Team Vitality, rekindling their hopes of a postseason appearance.

Throughout the split, MAD Lions struggled to replicate the competitive fire seen from the team in 2021. With the absence of key players Humanoid and Carzzy, their renowned teamfighting prowess had diminished significantly, especially with two rookies filling the mid and AD carry positions.

Today, however, MAD Lions employed a more comfortable composition against Europe’s highly anticipated superteam. The team’s star jungler, Elyoya, emphasized that they played with no expectations, allowing them to perform without worry or hesitation. MAD Lions also had a wide array of crowd control tools at their disposal, such as Twisted Fate’s stun card, Alistar’s knock-up combo, Jinx’s traps, and Poppy’s wall stun and knockback.

On the other hand, Vitality relied on the classic Diana-Yasuo combination, which has proven to be formidable in League of Legends. However, MAD Lions’ Poppy had the ability to cancel dashes, rendering Vitality’s strategy ineffective in the mid-to-late game. MAD Lions executed flawless late-stage skirmishes, chaining together a staggering amount of crowd control with precise engage timings.

For MAD Lions, this victory represents a lifeline for their postseason aspirations. Nonetheless, they are on the brink of becoming the first team in LEC’s history to win consecutive championships and miss the playoffs in the subsequent Spring Split. To secure their spot, MAD Lions must win their upcoming matches against Astralis and Team BDS, while also relying on Excel Esports and Vitality to drop more games during the super week.

Make sure to catch MAD Lions on Summoner’s Rift tomorrow at 11am CT for their next crucial game.
