Riot Games Postpones LPL Week Two Due to Coronavirus Outbreak in China

Riot Games has decided to indefinitely postpone week two of the Chinese League of Legends Pro League (LPL) in order to prioritize the safety and health of players and fans amidst the ongoing coronavirus outbreak in China. The LPL expressed their apologies to fans and promised to share updates as soon as possible.

Implications for the LPL and LDL

The LPL had initially planned to resume matches on February 5th after a break for the Chinese New Year. However, both the LPL and its academy league, the League of Legends Development League (LDL), will now be delayed until further notice.

The Coronavirus Outbreak

The coronavirus, which is similar to the SARS virus, was first reported to the World Health Organization on December 31st, originating from the city of Wuhan, which is currently on lockdown. As of now, the disease has affected over 2,000 Chinese citizens and caused over 50 fatalities. Cases have also been reported in other Asian countries as well as in France, Australia, and the United States.
