London to Host First-Ever International Esports Event for League of Legends

League of Legends Major Tournament Heading to London in 2023

If you’re a fan of League of Legends and have been longing for some live action in the United Kingdom, you’re in luck. In a historic move, Riot Games has confirmed that the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) will be held in London, England. This marks the first time the esports company will host an event in the country in the past decade.

Expanding the Tournament

The 2023 MSI will also feature some exciting changes. The event will expand to include more teams, growing from 11 to 13. Additionally, there will be two double-elimination stages: the play-in stage and the bracket stage. The location for the tournament is yet to be announced.

A Home for LoL Esports Supporters

The U.K. has a strong community of League of Legends Esports supporters and is home to several popular figures in the scene. Notable names include former Team Vitality top laner Alphari, as well as casters like Marc Robert “Caedrel” Lamont, Aaron “Medic” Chamberlain, and Andrew “Vedius” Day. The region also had a prominent European Regional League, the UKLC, before merging with the Nordic Championship League in 2020.

Will Royal Never Give Up Defend Their Title?

Last year, China’s Royal Never Give Up emerged victorious against Korea’s T1 in the 2022 Spring Split. However, this year they will be without their star mid laner Xiaohu, who joined Weibo Gaming. Nonetheless, Royal Never Give Up still boasts several players from their championship-winning lineup, giving them a strong chance of defending their title if they can secure the LPL trophy that season.
