LoL players bombard Ahri with targeted bans to protest divisive new Faker skin

Faker’s controversial Hall of Legends Ahri skin is now available in League of Legends.

Some players have definitely cashed out on the costly skin, spending their hard-earned money to represent Faker, but we doubt they have had the opportunity to use it yet. Ahri’s ban rate in solo queue has increased dramatically since the Faker bundle was launched. As of this writing, the champion has a ban rate of up to 16% in some rankings. It’s doubled and even tripled in some cases, according to a League stats site, LoLalytics.

Those who have been following the League in recent weeks should not be surprised by the dramatic increase in ban rates. League players were outraged when Riot Games unveiled the $450 price tag of Faker’s Hall of Legends bundle.

Faker was awarded a physical trophy to coincide with the Hall of Legends event. To make matters worse, it appeared to be badly damaged, which enraged League players even more.

Riot Games defended its decision to set the expensive price tag for the new bundle. In an interview at Summer Game Fest, League director Pu Liu stated that most users enjoy Riot’s games “for zero bucks,” in an attempt to justify the pricing.

Liu compared spending money on League to buying things like Warhammer figures. However, we would feel more better spending hundreds of dollars on tangible objects rather than skins in an online video game. And it appears that many players agree.
