Liiv SANDBOX surprises DRX in opening match of 2022 LCK Spring Split

Liiv SANDBOX pulls off an unexpected win against DRX in the 2022 LCK Spring Split

The 2022 LCK Spring Split, the competitive season for League of Legends in South Korea, started with a surprising victory for Liiv SANDBOX over DRX today.

Strong comebacks and excellent coordination lead to SANDBOX’s victory

Despite DRX initially dominating the series, they stumbled in the mid game due to being picked off multiple times by SANDBOX players. The SANDBOX team displayed impressive coordination and vision control, allowing them to come back from a significant 7,600-gold deficit and secure the win through a critical teamfight in the late game.

SANDBOX showcased their mechanical skill and surprised fans with efficient team play, despite being a newly formed roster. Dove, who transitioned from the mid lane to the top lane, played a key role in the team’s success with an outstanding performance on Tryndamere. He was named the MVP of the first game and demonstrated the trust placed in him by the coaching staff.

DRX struggles with team coordination

Although DRX displayed strong individual skill throughout the series, their lack of team coordination proved costly, leading to their defeat in both games. Top laner Kingen was frequently targeted on the sidelanes and was absent from crucial teamfights. While they managed to narrow the gold gap in the second game by playing defensively and capitalizing on SANDBOX’s mistakes, it wasn’t enough to secure a victory.

Upcoming matches

DRX will have an opportunity for redemption when they face Gen.G on Friday, Jan. 14. Meanwhile, SANDBOX will aim to continue their winning streak against Nongshim RedForce on Saturday, Jan. 15.
