Licorice might become Cloud9’s new top laner

Cloud9 Acquires New Top Laner

According to an ESPN report, Cloud9 has acquired a new top laner named Eric “Licorice” Ritchie. The news was announced earlier today.

Previously, Licorice was a part of Cloud9’s challenger roster. However, his contract was bought out by North American Challenger Series team eUnited in December 2016. The deal stated that if eUnited failed to make the NA LCS, Cloud9 would have the first opportunity to buy out Licorice’s contract.

Impact’s Future and Licorice’s Arrival

With Licorice joining Cloud9, their current top laner Jung “Impact” Eon-yeong will be free to consider offers from other teams. It is unclear what the future holds for Cloud9’s backup top laner, Jeon “Ray” Ji-won.

Licorice’s Rise to Prominence

Licorice had an impressive 2017 season, earning the title of best top laner in the North American challenger scene. He gained attention for his mastery of the top laner Cho’Gath, becoming one of the first players in the region to do so. This made him a highly sought after prospect in the North American scene.
