LGD Claims First Victory of 2022 LPL Spring Split, Extending OMG’s Losing Streak
In the latest matchup of the 2022 LPL Spring Split, LGD emerged victorious against OMG, who suffered their third consecutive loss after a promising start to the season.
LGD gained an advantage in the draft phase by securing highly sought-after picks—Corki and Jinx. Despite OMG’s attempts to snowball an early lead and neutralize the power spikes of LGD, LGD managed to strike back and secure key objectives.
In the first game, OMG’s jungler Aki secured first blood by invading LGD’s jungle, but LGD responded by killing Aki in the mid lane. LGD’s advantage grew as they secured the first Rift Herald and later dominated the dragon pit fight, securing three kills and the dragon. LGD’s AD carry, Eric, built a significant lead on Jinx and carried the game with the support of Corki’s damage.
In the second game, OMG prioritized the Jinx pick and forbade LGD from playing Corki. This gave OMG the opportunity to scale up their AD carry, Able. At the 20-minute mark, OMG gained an even gold lead and a three-dragon advantage. However, OMG secured an early Baron and won a crucial team fight near LGD’s blue buff, leading to a victory and forcing a game three.
For the final game, LGD capitalized on their blue side draft advantage by securing Jinx, which proved to be the downfall for OMG.
At the 35-minute mark, the game remained relatively even, with OMG holding a 2,000 gold lead and three dragons. During their attempt to secure Baron, OMG’s top laner, Shanji, sacrificed himself, allowing OMG to claim the Baron. However, LGD’s shad0w found a flank on OMG, enabling Eric’s Jinx to decimate the enemy team. LGD sieged through the top lane and emerged victorious.
Throughout the series, Jinx proved to be a dominant pick, going undefeated at 3-0, while Corki either found its way into the games or was banned.
With their first win secured, LGD will aim to continue their winning streak in their upcoming match against WE on Feb. 14. Meanwhile, OMG will face TOP Esports as the underdogs, hoping that the strengths offered by Jinx and Corki in the current meta will help them break their losing streak.
