League Patch 10.17: Riot Strengthens Kai’Sa, Varus, and Xayah; Caitlyn Receives Nerfs

Riot Focuses on Bot Lane in League of Legends Patch 10.17

Riot Games is directing its attention to the bot lane in the upcoming League of Legends Patch 10.17. One of the champions that has become dominant in the game recently is Caitlyn, following her buffs in July. With a high win rate of 52 percent and a play rate of 15 percent in both solo queue and competitive play, Caitlyn has proven to be a force to be reckoned with.

In an effort to balance the game, Riot is making adjustments to Caitlyn in Patch 10.17. They will be reverting her movement speed buffs from Patch 10.15 and reducing it back from 330 to 325. However, her base attack damage will remain unchanged at 64. This nerf will help create a more even playing field for other champions.

Alongside the Caitlyn changes, Riot is also buffing Kai’Sa, Varus, and Xayah in preparation for Worlds 2020. While the buffs are relatively minor, they are expected to impact the bot lane meta.

Buffs for Kai’Sa, Varus, and Xayah

Riot is increasing Kai’Sa’s base attack damage per level from 1.7 to two. Additionally, the attack speed on her Supercharge (E) ability will be increased from 40 to 60 percent to 40 to 80 percent. Kai’Sa has received several buffs throughout the year but has struggled in the bot lane, with a win rate of 47 percent in solo queue and limited appearances in competitive play. These changes could potentially bring her back into the meta.

Varus and Xayah will also receive buffs to their base stats. Varus’ attack speed per level will be increased from three to 3.75 percent, while Xayah’s attack damage per level will be increased from 2.9 to 3.5. These buffs may give Varus and Xayah the push they need to see more playtime.

All of these changes are set to go live on Wednesday, August 19.
