League of Legends Worlds 2020 Stage Dates Unveiled at Tencent Esports Conference

The Schedule for the 2020 League of Legends World Championship is Set

The dates for the highly anticipated 2020 League of Legends World Championship have been revealed during Tencent’s annual Esports Conference. The tournament will kick off on September 25 and the winner will be crowned on October 31 at the Pudong Soccer Stadium in Shanghai. As a safety precaution due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all matches will take place in Shanghai.

Dates for Each Stage

Here are the dates for each stage of the World Championship:

  • Play-in stage: September 25 to 30
  • Group stage: October 3 to 6, October 8 to 11
  • Quarterfinals: October 15 to 18
  • Semifinals: October 24 to 25
  • Finals: October 31

The World Championship will conclude earlier than usual this year, as it typically ends in mid-November. Fans speculate that this change in schedule may provide an advantage to Western teams, who have not won the World Championship since season one. Perhaps the Halloween spirit can bring them luck this time.

In light of the numerous event cancellations due to the coronavirus, many doubted if the World Championship would even take place this year. However, Riot Games proposed a “bubble system” to ensure the safety of all players and staff. This system involves bringing all qualified players together in a single city weeks before the tournament begins. On July 31, Riot Games officially announced the World Championship for 2020.

League fans around the world are eagerly anticipating the clash between domestic and international teams. Will this be the year that a Western team claims victory, or will the LCK or LPL triumph again? Prepare yourselves, as the excitement begins on September 25.
