League of Legends will soon include replay feature

Riot Games is finally adding replays to League of Legends after nearly seven years since the feature was first announced. This new feature will not only allow players to watch past games on demand, but also create highlights during a match for later viewing. The replays will also include a timeline of events such as kills, Baron attempts, and tower kills.

Riot outlined their process for adding replays to the League client in a recent news release. The company had previously mentioned this feature nearly a year ago but it wasn’t prioritized due to technical demands, including support for backpatching, which allows the client to spectate older replays from previous patches.

After making improvements to the game’s global infrastructure, Riot decided that it was finally the right time to explore the replay feature.

In addition to saving and viewing match replays, players will also be able to record specific highlights through a built-in recording functionality.

While replays are common in other esports like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2, League of Legends players have been eagerly awaiting this feature since the game’s release in 2009.
