Riot Games Teases a Potential Void Event in League of Legends with New Kassadin Splash Art
Riot Games has hinted at upcoming developments in the lore of the Void, one of the regions in League of Legends that remains shrouded in mystery. Through new artwork featuring Kassadin, a prominent champion who travels the Void, fans can expect more information about a possible “Void event” in the game.
As part of the current PBE cycle, Kassadin’s splash art has received a significant update that deviates from his appearance over the past decade. It is yet to be determined whether this new art is for a skin, an alternative version of Kassadin like Caitlyn’s ASUs, or a complete VGU (Visual and Gameplay Update). Nonetheless, the artwork presents Kassadin in a more powerful and Void-like fashion than ever before.
Compared to the current splash art, the new version of Kassadin features design elements reminiscent of his daughter, Kai’Sa, such as the shoulder pads adorned with eerie purple Void spikes. The updated splash also enhances the menacing nature of his squid-like mask by sharpening the horns and eliminating some of the tubes.
One significant aspect of the new splash art is its emphasis on Kassadin’s human form, including the robe he wore while disguised in his search for his master, Malzahar, within the Void. The tattered robe serves as a visual representation of the hardships and struggles Kassadin endured during his journey, as well as a reminder of the vengeance he sought against the Void for the things it took from him.
While the implications of this new splash art for Kassadin and the overall state of League of Legends are not yet clear, its release alongside an impending Void-themed champion suggests the possibility of a Void event in the near future. Kassadin has not received any significant rework since season four, and his visuals have remained largely unchanged since his debut in 2009.
