League of Legends players express frustration over changes to ranked borders

League of Legends’ 2022 Season Introduces New Profile Customization

Riot Games made several changes to League of Legends’ 2022 season, including the introduction of new profile customization options. However, one particular change to the ranked borders has received criticism from players.

Players like u/Clasher212421 took to Reddit to express their disappointment with the new ranked border designs. In the past, these borders served as a testament to a player’s skills and knowledge of the game. However, this year, they fail to capture the same prominence, according to some players.

Clasher212421 noted that the new border designs are less rewarding and often appear similar across multiple ranks. The only distinguishing factor is the jewels that accompany the borders in the loading screen.

Uninspiring Upgrades and Disconnect from Runeterra

The current borders no longer have upgradable versions on the player’s profile screen. Instead, they resemble wings rather than the growing helmets of previous seasons. Additionally, these winged emblems lack the regional influence that the helmets used to have.

Players Feel Disheartened and Unfulfilled

Many League players share the sentiment that these changes have taken away the excitement and sense of progression in the game. Apart from end-of-season rewards, players feel that they can no longer adequately express their growth and achievements.

Riot Games has not announced any plans to revert the ranked borders to their previous designs or make further changes. Other announced profile customization features, such as equipping multiple icons and the new achievements system, are also yet to be implemented.
