League of Legends players express concern over Infernal Dragon’s map coloring following Patch 9.23

League of Legends Preseason Brings Major Map Changes

League of Legends Patch 9.23 brought in the preseason, which included a significant overhaul of the Rift’s terrain based on dragon spawns. While these map changes may look impressive, fans are finding them distracting and, in some cases, unpleasant.

Complaints about Map Changes

Several posts on the League subreddit express discontent with the changes made to Summoner’s Rift, particularly the Infernal Drake terrain. The fire dragon has burned up several bushes in the jungle area, and molten lava now flows through what was once a peaceful landscape. Although having different visuals from game to game adds variety to the veteran map, players are requesting an option to disable these vibrant hues.

Player Feedback

One player expressed their frustration with the map colors, stating in a Reddit post, “I find the change of colors of the map really distracting, especially with the infernal dragon. It’s very fatiguing for my eyes. I think they should introduce an option to disable it. Also, I believe it might be incredibly annoying for colorblind players as well.”

Another player shared their experience of suffering from eye discomfort and a headache due to the clash between the green grass and red floor. This player even had to stop playing because they felt unwell.

Request for an Option to Disable Map Colors

Many frustrated fans, including those mentioned above, believe that Riot should provide an option to turn off the map colors. Riot has already implemented a similar system where they decorate Summoner’s Rift during holiday events. While players would greatly appreciate this option, it would undermine months of development and effort.

Positive Feedback about Ocean Drake Terrain

On the other hand, some fans find solace in the tranquility of the Ocean Drake terrain. They appreciate the overgrown shrubbery and the calming drizzle, which provide a welcome break from the competitive and stressful environment.

Resistance to Change and Potential Solution

These complaints could simply be a result of players not being accustomed to significant changes. Riot often receives criticism after major gameplay overhauls, but players eventually adapt or learn to accept the adjustments and move on.

As of now, it remains uncertain if Riot plans to introduce a disable option for the map in the future. Nevertheless, providing such an option could be a simple way to appease fans.
