League of Legends players apprehensive as one of the game’s ‘recent’ items faces potential removal—once more

League of Legends Players Speculate about the Removal of Statikk Shiv

League of Legends is known for making changes to its items during the preseason, and this year, players are anxiously waiting to see if one particular item will be removed from the game. Statikk Shiv, an item that was recently re-added after a two-year absence, is believed to be a possible candidate for removal in the upcoming season. Players on the League subreddit have theorized that if the current trend of nerfs continues, Statikk Shiv could be deleted from the game.

According to a post on Reddit, players are concerned that Statikk Shiv’s continuous nerfs to its wave clear ability will cause people to stop buying the item, ultimately leading to its removal from the game.

Statikk Shiv had been absent from League‘s item shop for over two years, having been deleted in 2020. However, it was reworked and reintroduced earlier this season to focus more on magic damage and wave clear. It became a must-buy for AP champions and certain hybrid AD carries, briefly becoming one of the most powerful items in the game.

Since its re-addition in Patch 13.10, Statikk Shiv has been subject to significant nerfs by Riot. Its ability power ratios and minion damage bonuses have been reduced multiple times. The item’s 50 percent AP ratio has been reduced to 15 percent, and the AP scaling on minion damage has been completely removed. In Patch 13.18, the item’s minion damage will be further reduced from 250-350 to 200.

One Reddit user named TheCyrax1337 commented, “People don’t want to admit that bringing back Shiv was a mistake.”

In the past, Riot has removed items from the game that were deemed unsuccessful and no longer resonated with the community after being heavily nerfed. Items like Banner of Command and Feral Flare had their moment of fame before being nerfed to the point of extinction. It remains a possibility that Statikk Shiv will meet a similar fate.
