League of Legends gamers select champions in dire need of a kit overhaul

Who Should Get the Next Comprehensive Gameplay Update in League of Legends?

Riot Games introduced the concept of Comprehensive Gameplay Updates (CGUs) with their rework of Aurelion Sol earlier this year in League of Legends. Now, fans are speculating about which champions deserve the next CGU. The discussion started on a Sept. 30 Reddit thread, where players nominated champions they believe are long overdue for a CGU, focusing solely on their kit rather than their visuals, lore, and aesthetics.

One of the candidates for a CGU is the champion Ryze, who has undergone several reworks in the past. However, some fans think that these changes have done nothing to align him with Riot’s vision of a “machine-gun mage.” On the other hand, there are players who enjoy watching Ryze in professional play. Nonetheless, his pick rate in professional matches this past split was only 1.5 percent, according to stats from Game of Legends. This suggests that a rework may be necessary for The Rune Mage.

Another champion mentioned in the discussion is Tryndamere, who was released in 2009. The community believes that his kit should have been reworked years ago without altering his visuals. Riot has struggled to find the right balance for The Barbarian King, as evidenced by a recent buff to his range in Patch 13.17, followed by a swift nerf due to its overpowering effect.

Yuumi, a relatively new addition to the League of Legends champion roster, has also divided the community since her release on May 14, 2019. Some players have criticized her unique ability to latch onto other players and become untouchable, describing her as a “parasite” who does nothing for the majority of the game.

As League of Legends approaches its 14th birthday on Oct. 27, there is a growing list of champions awaiting a CGU or a Visual Gameplay Update (VGU). Riot Games can turn to its passionate community for inspiration whenever they run out of ideas for champion updates.
