League of Legends developer clarifies reasons behind Riot’s consistent alterations to Senna’s soul rate

League of Legends Patch 12.11: Senna Balance Changes

A new update is coming to League of Legends after Patch 12.10. This time, the focus is on balancing champions, and Senna is one of them.

In Patch 12.11, Riot developers are making changes to Senna. Her ability called Piercing Darkness (Q) will have reduced damage and slow, while the soul drop rate from minion kills on her Absolution (Passive) will be increased from 2.166 percent to 8.33 percent, as stated in the latest patch preview here.

Reasoning Behind the Changes

August Browning, the lead game designer, explained the rationale behind these changes on League’s subreddit. In response to a question about why Senna’s soul drop rate is being updated again, August clarified that it is not due to indecision but rather an adjustment to balance ADC vs. support win rates. He compared it to jungle changes, stating that it is similar to changes made to jungle damage values and base stats on other champions.

Improving Senna’s Performance as an AD Carry

By increasing the drop rate of souls from minion kills, the developers are aiming to boost Senna’s pick and win rates as an AD carry. Currently, Senna is not the strongest marksman in the game, with a 49.88 percent win rate and only a 0.5 percent pick rate in that position, according to League stat site U.GG.

Strong Support Champion

On the other hand, Senna is one of the best support champions, boasting a 52.98 percent win rate and a high pick rate of 18.6 percent (the highest among supports). Additionally, she has a substantial ban rate of 28.5 percent, ranking third-highest in the game at the moment.

It’s no secret that Riot often makes adjustments to Senna’s balance. Her passive has been tweaked in multiple patches, including Patch 12.3, Patch 11.17, Patch 11.11, and Patch 11.5.

League of Legends Patch 12.11 is scheduled to go live on Wednesday, June 8.
