League of Legends community is pleased with Riot’s choice to remove Mythics, but opinions vary

Riot Games to Remove Mythic Items for Increased Build Diversity in League of Legends

Many players of the popular game League of Legends have expressed concerns about the lack of build diversity and customization since the introduction of Mythic items in 2021. However, Riot Games has recently made the surprising announcement that they will be removing these items in 2024 in an effort to increase build diversity and eliminate the limitations they placed on champion builds. While some players are celebrating this decision, others are not happy with the change.

When Mythic items were first added to League of Legends in Season 11, they were meant to revamp champion builds by focusing on specific items and their accompanying stats and buffs. The idea was great, but with over 160 different League characters, not every champion received their own Mythic item, which limited the options for players when building their champions.

Concerns About Build Diversity

Many players believe that simply removing Mythic items will not be enough to truly create build diversity as Riot claims. Some champions, like Katarina, are already versatile enough to build almost anything due to the vast item pool, so removing Mythics won’t have a significant impact on them. Additionally, there are concerns that removing these items will not effectively balance the win rates of champions as intended.

Potential Downsides of Increased Diversity

Some fans argue that Riot’s push for diversity might not be the best approach because it could encourage players to experiment with off-meta or unusual builds that may negatively impact competitive ranked games. This could potentially make games in 2024 more tedious for players.

The Silver Lining

Despite the concerns, some players see a silver lining in the removal of Mythic items. Without being tied to one core item, players will have the opportunity to combine the benefits of updated items to create better builds. It also means that champions who never truly benefited from Mythic items will now have more options to choose from, potentially leading to improved builds and win rates for those champions.

Ultimately, the true impact of these changes on the game’s diversity and gameplay will only be known once they are implemented. However, it is clear that climbing the ranks in League of Legends next year will be an interesting and potentially game-changing experience.
