League of Legends 2021 Champion Releases Ranking

Four champions were added to the League of Legends roster in 2021, which is the lowest number of newcomers since 2018. Despite the small quantity, each of these champions had a significant impact on the game. They were either the center of in-game events or caused a shift in the competitive meta. Let’s take a look at the four champions released in 2021 and rank them based on gameplay, characterization, and overall appeal.

4) Akshan

Akshan is at the bottom of our list, not because he is a bad champion, but because he doesn’t quite measure up to the other champions released this season. His ability, Going Rogue (W), which revives Akshan’s teammates if he avenges them, was not well-received by the League community upon his release. Additionally, Akshan needed immediate hotfixes and has received several bugfixes and balance updates since joining the roster. However, the concept of hunting down “scoundrels” and avenging teammates is an enjoyable aspect of Akshan’s character.

3) Vex

Vex stands out from the rest of League‘s champion roster due to her unique personality. While her kit resembles that of a standard control mage, Vex simply wants to avoid conflict. Players may find her dialogue interesting, but her gameplay and differences from other control mages may pose a challenge for those who are not familiar with her mechanics.

2) Gwen

Gwen filled the gap of a top laner with dueling capabilities in the 2021 season. She has a high skill cap, allowing players to weave auto attacks between her abilities like no other champion. Gwen’s unique connection to Viego is a rare occurrence in League history.

1) Viego

Viego made a dramatic entrance in January, shaking up the League community. As the “Ruined King,” Viego has the ability to possess the spirits of other champions and use their powers against them. He had a significant impact on the meta, both in professional play and solo queue. Viego’s versatility and skill ceiling make him a game-changing champion.
