Vel’koz to Receive Visual Updates in 12.3 PBE Patch
Vel’koz, The Eye of the Void, will be getting visual effect updates in the upcoming 12.3 PBE Patch. This is part of Riot Games’ plan to bring all League champions up to date.
The news was shared on Reddit by Sirhaian, a senior VFX artist at Riot Games. In the post, Sirhaian explained that VFX updates will continue for certain champions, with Vel’koz being the focus for the 12.3 PBE Patch.
According to Sirhaian, the aim of these updates is to bring the champions’ VFX in line with current standards and improve gameplay clarity. This follows previous updates to champions like Syndra, Zilean, and Malzahar.
The visual update for Vel’koz focuses on aligning his design with the Void champions’ theme, as well as improving hitbox indicators. Sirhaian invited the community to provide feedback on the changes and shared a thumbnail showcasing the abilities and visuals that would be updated.
After receiving feedback from the community, Sirhaian made several edits to the VFX for Vel’koz. These changes included enhancing the visibility of his E projectile and adjusting the respawn portal on base to fit the Void theme. Other updates were made to the Infernal and Blackfrost indicators, among other visual enhancements, while retaining Vel’koz’s original appeal.
The dedication to updating champions who need visual improvements has been well-received by the community. Although Sirhaian did not reveal the upcoming champions to receive updates, he assured players that Riot has a long list of champions planned for updates.
VFX updates have become a regular occurrence in recent patches, with Varus and Vayne being the most recent champions to receive minor visual updates. As the year progresses, the Vel’koz VFX updates could be the start of significant visual changes on the way.
Players can stay informed about Patch 12.3, scheduled to launch on February 2, by following League’s official patch schedule for Season 12.
