League of Legends Bug Causing Jungle Plants to Not Respawn
The popular strategy game League of Legends has encountered a game-altering bug involving the item Umbral Glaive. When a champion equipped with Umbral Glaive hits a jungle plant, the plant fails to respawn. A fan of the game brought this issue to Reddit, hoping it will be fixed before the upcoming Worlds 2020 knockout stage. also tested the bug and experienced similar results.
The Bug and Its Consequences
The bug is easily replicated: simply purchase Umbral Glaive, attack any of the Rift’s jungle plants, and observe as they do not respawn for the remainder of the match. This bug can have complex implications for gameplay.
Blast Cones are a valuable tool for junglers, allowing them to reposition and potentially steal objectives or escape danger. If the plant fails to respawn, a team may be at a disadvantage when contesting objectives or evading threats.
Graves and Pantheon support are popular champions at Worlds, and both frequently build Umbral Glaive for scouting and lethality. While this bug can impact solo queue matches, it also has the potential to affect high-level professional play.
Previous Incidence of the Bug
A League fan claims that this bug was already observed during the Worlds group stage tiebreaker between Suning and G2 Esports. In the match, SofM’s Graves hit a Blast Cone near G2’s Gromp, causing the plant to not respawn for the remainder of the game. This potentially influenced the final team fight, where Bin’s Gangplank defeated Caps and Perkz.
Duration and Possible Oversight
It is unclear how long this bug has been present. Umbral Glaive was added in Patch 9.23 to provide more options for champions with high lethality. As it was not heavily utilized and only by a small number of champions, this bug may have gone unnoticed. With the multitude of factors players need to monitor, it is entirely possible for such a bug to slip through the cracks.
This bug is reminiscent of a recent discovery regarding the attack range discrepancy between red and blue side cannon minions, an oversight that went unnoticed for the game’s 10-year lifespan.
