LCS Teams Actively Pursuing Third Imports for Upcoming Season, LS Reports

The LCS Reportedly Looking to Increase Import Slots

According to LS, the LCS is considering increasing the number of import slots for next year. As a result, some teams have already started searching for new players overseas. LS revealed this information during his recent broadcast, specifically discussing Evil Geniuses’ plans to revamp their LCS roster for the 2023 Summer Split. In addition to this, LS also shed light on other moves made by LCS teams in relation to a potential third import slot in 2024 and beyond.

LS disclosed that LCS teams have already begun reaching out to LCK teams to acquire a third import player. However, they do not intend to field these players in the LCS or NA Academy during the summer. Instead, the purpose behind these contacts is to establish an agreement with an LCK player and team. Once the import rules are changed, these players will join their respective North American organizations. It is worth mentioning that some LCS organizations have already been signing LCK Challenger or Academy players and officially adding them to their rosters in 2024. This trend has already begun among several LCS teams.

As a result of these developments, LS predicts that native North American players will face even more competition for starting positions on LCS teams. The increase in imports will make it even harder for them to secure spots on these rosters.

This news comes after the leak by Cloud9’s AD carry, Berserker, during his personal Twitch stream. On April 16, Berserker accidentally revealed that Riot is planning to expand the LCS import rule in 2024. According to Berserker, Riot has considered allowing teams to have up to three Korean or Chinese players on their rosters. While this information is not confirmed, it has sparked discussions within the community.
