LCS playoffs victory ends Jensen’s LoL Worlds streak, Golden Guardians responsible

Golden Guardians Shatter Historic Streak, Secure Spot in International Tournament

Golden Guardians continue their remarkable journey in the 2023 LCS season, breaking Jensen’s seven-year-long streak in League of Legends history. In an impressive 3-0 victory, they put an end to Dignitas’ upward momentum, securing yet another international tournament appearance.

After a successful first championship victory with Cloud9 last summer, Jensen joined Dignitas, a team that was struggling. Despite having some veterans on their roster, Dignitas performed poorly throughout the Spring Split, finishing in tenth place with only three wins in eight weeks.

In the Summer Split, Dignitas made a slight roster adjustment by adding Rich and Diamond. This proved to be a turning point as the team improved their communication issues and secured a spot in the playoffs bracket.

Despite a surprise upper-bracket loss to NRG, Golden Guardians remained resilient and maintained the synergy they had developed throughout the year. This led them to their first playoffs finals and MSI appearance. Licorice, the veteran top laner, played a crucial role in Golden Guardians’ final game victory against Dignitas, earning him the first team all-pro spot and the most improved player award.

The journey to determine the third representative for the LCS at the World Championship will reach its climax this Sunday. Golden Guardians will face Team Liquid in the lower bracket, with the winner earning the opportunity to become the LCS’ fourth seed in the Worlds qualifying series against the LEC’s fourth seed.

The 2023 LCS Championship winner’s finals will feature Cloud9 and NRG battling for a spot in New Jersey and at Worlds.
