LCS Lock In Tournament Group Stages Shift to Remote Format amid Surge in COVID-19 Cases

LCS Lock In Tournament to be Played Remotely

The LCS Lock In Tournament, scheduled to start on Jan. 14, will now be played remotely, according to a recent announcement by the official LCS account. This decision comes in the wake of the LEC moving its Spring Split online, and it is driven by the increasing number of COVID cases in Los Angeles county. The safety of players and staff remains the top priority for the LCS, and a return to the studio will be considered once it is safe to do so.

Impact of Rising COVID-19 Cases

Los Angeles county has experienced a 22.56 percent increase in positive COVID-19 tests since the start of the new year. Given the alarming rise in cases, it is unclear when the LCS competition will be able to return to the LCS Studio. However, the possibility of hosting parts of the LCS Lock In event in person has not been ruled out entirely. The organizers will continuously assess the situation and bring teams back to the studio during the knockout stage, as soon as it is deemed safe.

Remote Competition and Format

The 10 LCS teams will compete from their respective practice facilities, similar to the approach taken by the LEC. The teams have been divided into two groups, with five teams each. The top four teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage. The LCS Lock In tournament will begin on Jan. 14 and conclude on Jan. 30. Following the festive period, the 2022 LCS Spring Split will commence on Feb. 5, featuring the 10 LCS teams vying for the title of Spring Split Champion.
