LCS Falls Behind Three Counterparts in Viewership for Second Consecutive Regular Season

The LCS Summer Split Struggles with Viewership

With only one week left in the 2023 LCS Summer Split regular season, the league’s viewership continues to disappoint, following a trend that has developed over the past few seasons.

According to Esports Charts, the LCS falls behind three other leagues in terms of average concurrent viewership, with an average of just under 69 thousand viewers per game day.

Comparison to Other Leagues

When compared to other leagues, the LCS is struggling to attract viewers. The LEC currently has an average viewer count of around 169 thousand people per game day, while the LCK boasts a comparable 165 thousand average viewers. Brazil’s CBLOL has also surpassed North America with an impressive 73 thousand concurrent average viewers, highlighting the region’s strong support from local fans and its growing global reputation.

LCS Peak Viewership and Changes

In terms of peak viewership, the LCS lags behind other leagues as well. This past season, the league only reached a peak of 109 thousand viewers, lower than the CBLOL, LCK, LEC, LPL, and LFL. Despite the competitiveness of teams and the emergence of new stars in 2023, the LCS has not come close to its previous highs in terms of viewership.

Additionally, there have been significant changes to the league this season, such as shifting to weekday game days instead of the usual weekends. Although not a drastic change, some fans find it challenging to tune into every game due to work, school, and other responsibilities.

Looking Ahead for the LCS

The LCS continues to experience a decline in viewership. While the numbers are expected to increase during the playoffs, it is crucial for the league to address this trend to ensure its long-term success.
